Become a Freemason

Freemasonry traces its origins back to the medieval stonemasons who built cathedrals and castles, and it is one of the most established social and charitable organisations in the world.

HOW TO JOIN FREEMASONRY

Membership is open to individuals from all backgrounds. The primary goal of the organisation is to empower its members to reach their fullest potential. This is achieved by building character, supporting individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.

So, what are you getting into?

Freemasonry is a fraternity with a rich history and potential benefits for those interested in joining. It offers a structured system for personal growth and development, encouraging members to improve their moral character, public speaking skills, and leadership abilities.

Friendship and fellowship
Freemasonry offers numerous benefits, and one of the most valuable among them is the chance to build strong, lasting friendships with fellow members. Freemasons come from diverse backgrounds and share a unique sense of brotherhood. This can be an excellent source of support and companionship, particularly for those who are new to a community or seeking new connections.

Charity and philanthropy
The Freemasons are renowned for their dedication to charity and philanthropic activities. They provide support to a broad range of charitable causes, both at the local and national levels. Members are motivated to give back to their communities, and there are ample opportunities to get involved in volunteer work.

Sense of belonging
Freemasonry is an organisation that can offer individuals a deep sense of belonging and connectedness to a like-minded community. It provides a supportive and welcoming environment for its members, where they can feel a sense of being part of something greater than themselves.

History and tradition
Freemasonry has a long and fascinating history that dates back centuries. Members have the opportunity to learn about the organisation's traditions and practices, which can be a rewarding experience.

However, it's essential to consider some potential drawbacks as well. Freemasonry can be time-consuming and expensive to join and maintain membership. Moreover, with a few exceptions, it is a male-only organisation, which may discourage some individuals. Furthermore, Freemasonry has been criticised for its secrecy and some of its rituals.

It's important to note that not everyone will have the same experience with Freemasonry. Some may find that it doesn't suit them, while others may find it to be life-changing. If you're interested in knowing more about Freemasonry, the best thing to do is to contact a local lodge. They can answer your questions and provide you with more information about the organisation.

If you don’t know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact a nearby Lodge and a local Freemason will be in touch.
